Former Santos and Barcelona forward Maxi Rollin died this afternoon (14) in a traffic accident on a section of Route 33 between Pozzato and Casilda in the Argentine province of Santa Fe. Her brother Ariel Rollins also died in the crash.
According to the Argentine press, the accident happened when the player tried to take a turn and lost control of the vehicle, shortly after it collided with a tree on the side of the highway.
Maxi played for Barcelona between 2010 and 2016, rising in rank over the years, even playing for the club’s B team. In 2016, he was transferred to Santos, where he played 5 games and did not score for Logo before returning to Spain.
The accident stopped traffic on one lane of the road. Firefighters and Argentine police forces, along with a medical team, tried to help the brothers, who were still alive, but both escaped unhurt.
Due to the accident, the Casildense League, in which the player played for Miter, suspended the round to be played this Sunday. Prosecutor Juan Pablo Banos of the Public Ministry of the Prosecution of Casalda is in charge of investigating the incident.
Clubs show solidarity.
The teams for which the player played via Twitter expressed regret over the incident and offered condolences and support to the brothers’ families. Check out some posts:
