SES confirms that new sub-version of CoVID-19 is circulating in Pernambuco.

A new sub-form of Omekron is circulating in Pernambuco. This was confirmed this Wednesday (22) following the release of a new genetic sequence by the Institute Aggeu Magalhães (IAM / Fiocruz PE) in collaboration with the State Department of Health (SES-PE).

In this round, 146 positive samples of Covid 19 collected between January and June were processed. Nine of them were identified as Omicron’s BA.5.

The genome was collected between May 26 and June 1 in patients living in the municipalities of Macaprana (1), Recife (7) and Sؤo Bento du Yona (1), including 7 females and 2 males aged 15 years. She was between 85 years old. . Only two of them had a complete vaccination schedule.

One patient received only one dose of the Covid 19 vaccine and another needed a booster dose. Six were asymptomatic and the other three had symptoms.

Other processed genomes were also of the omicron lineage, collected between January and June in patients living in the municipalities of Barra de Guebaraba (1), Camaragibi (2), Cararo (1), Garanhans (3), and Djibouti.
